Computer chip fan fail?

My tower started making a grinding noise on start up. This has now stopped but I get a message on start up warning computer chip fan fail or setting too low. My pc is still under warranty so I phoned mesh for advise they advised me to start up the computer and press delete until a screen came up Phoenix - award bios cmos set up utility on this screen I was told to go into power and enter and then hardware monitor on this screen the q fan monitor was showing as disabled and I was advised to change the setting to enabled. This has stopped the error message coming up but I am worried I may still have a faulty fan and cannot understand why it would have been making a grinding noise if only the settings on the pc had mysteriously got changed. Can anyone advise if what I have been told to do is correct of if I should go back to mesh for a repair.
