I have O negative blood, and I want to donate. But...?

I am a fainter, and needles scare the hell out of me. Even after getting blood drawn for doctor appointments, I almost hit the floor. But i have the worldly blood, and I know I should donate... Should I?? And how much will it hurt if I give in??
