Why is it that opposing Israel makes me a bigot in the eyes of some?

It's a bullying tactic. I don't see why criticizing a government should be so unconscionable. After all there are many jewish peple who oppose what the Israeli government has done and is doing, and i ure everyone that they're not antisemintes... Just as the americans who spoke against the administration were not Un American.
